THE REV. KOBINA OFOSU-DONKOH, PH.D.

FOUNDING PASTOR

 

 After High (Secondary) School in June 1977, Kobina Ofosu-Donkoh trained as a Junior Customs & Excise Officer and worked for the then Ghana Customs & Excise Department in Cape Coast and Accra (1978-1981).

 

In September 1981, Kobina received a call into the ministry of the Lord, and was sent to Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon to train as pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.   He graduated from seminary in 1984, was commissioned (June 1984) and ordained (June 1986) by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, and worked for the denomination for five years, from 1984 to 1989 -- first as Associate Pastor (1984-1988) and then as District Pastor (1988-1989).

 

In September 1989, Rev. Ofosu-Donkoh was sponsored by his family and friends to the United States for a two-year graduate program at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He proceeded thereafter to Temple University in Philadelphia for further graduate studies.

 

During his studies at Temple, Rev. Ofosu-Donkoh, together with his wife, Baaba, and a few friends, founded the United Ghanaian Community Church (UGCC) on Christmas Day, December 25, 1995, and has since served as its pastor.  He is currently the Moderator of the Conference of Ghanaian Presbyterian Churches in North America.

 

Rev. Ofosu-Donkoh holds a Diploma in Theology from the University of Ghana (through Trinity Theological Seminary), a Master of Arts degree (Theology) from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, a second Master of Arts degree (World Religions) from Temple University, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Comparative Religion) also from Temple University. 

 

Besides his pastoral vocation, Dr. Ofosu-Donkoh teaches in the Department of Religious Studies and the African Studies Center at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.  His research focuses on legitimizing human rights in religious traditions of the world.  He is the author of Human Rights in African Religions and Philosophy

He is a photographer by hobby, but does not print his photos.

 

Dr. Ofosu-Donkoh comes from Breman Asikuma in the Central Region of Ghana, where he received his basic education at the Presbyterian Primary and Middle schools (1962-1972) and the Breman Asikuma Secondary School (1972-1977).
